Keep Kids Reading

Grants for Summer Reading Programs.


The Town Pump Charitable Foundation, on an annual basis, offers $1,000 grants to public libraries in Montana to help fund summer youth-reading programs.


“The Town Pump Charitable Foundation appreciates the critical role libraries play in our Montana communities,” said Bill McGladdery, director of corporate communications for Town Pump. “Many Montana libraries increase youth-reading programs in the summer months to help prevent the ‘summer slide’ and help children maintain or improve their spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.”


When a child does not read over the summer break, they can lose 2 months of reading skills progress. Many communities offer summer reading programs to help offset this “summer slide.”


Through our “Keep Kids Reading” grant program, local libraries can apply for these $1,000 grants each spring to offset the costs of these programs. The grant can be used for books, supplies, snacks, speakers, or other items related to the reading program.
